Strakka Racing Blancpain Barcelona

Strakka Racing wrap up Blancpain GT Series Season in Barcelona

29th September 2019

In the final round of the 2019 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, Strakka Racing finished seventh in the Silver Cup of the Barcelona 3 Hours. In a race that was heavily disrupted by multiple safety car periods, including one that lasted the first forty-five minutes of the race to complete barrier repair, and full course yellows, the trio of Romain Monti, Max Koebolt and Esteban Muth brought the #43 Mercedes-AMG GT3 home seventh in class.

It was a strong weekend for the #43 trio, with them consistently in the top three in class straight out of the box. They qualified in third place in the Silver Cup (17th overall) and then, on the first lap of the Barcelona 3 Hours, Monti took the car into second. After the first lengthy safety car period, Koebolt took the wheel and, after the first round of pitstops had taken place, the #43 ran fourth in class. As almost the whole field pitted simultaneously under another FCY, the #43 emerged heading into the last hour fourth in class with Muth driving, and took the chequered flag after three hours in that position. A post-race penalty of 30 seconds was handed to the team after Muth was judged to have caused a collision, and the #43 was classified seventh in the final standings.

Jay Davenport, Strakka Racing Director: “We’re disappointed to miss out on a podium here, particularly after such a consistent and strong weekend where we were regularly second and third on the Silver Cup timesheets. However, considering that this is the first time that Romain, Max and Esteban have worked together as a team, and the disruptive nature of the race with the long safety car periods and full course yellows, we did what we could here today. As a team we’re now fully focused on the IGTC finale in Kyalami and ending our 2019 on a high.”

Strakka Racing’s last outing in 2019 will be the Kyalami 9 Hour, the finale of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, taking place on 23 November.
